The BirthKeeper movement was created to use the power of individuals and organizations to create a platform in which to improve the beginning of life for human beings. The inaugural gathering took place in 2015, and organizers are bringing the movement this spring to Washington, DC with a series of events May 14-16 happening in conjunction with the Annual Clinical Meeting of ACOG, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Our current systems of care from pregnancy and birth to the postpartum period, as well as our social supports for parents and children, don’t provide optimal beginnings for human beings. This has a profound effect on both short and long term emotional and physical heath of humans.
It is time that our current institutions reflect what years of science proves; that what happens during this “primal period” shapes our physical, emotional, intellectual, social, sexual, and spiritual health & well-being and shapes families and societies. We must do better for all mothers and babies, now.
Success in 2015
Sponsored by the non-profit Institute if Feminine Arts and Sciences, the 2015 BirthKeeper Summit was planned to be in the same town as the ACOG Annual Clinical Meeting.
Not only did we have a three-day Summit full of leaders from all over the world, but we held a large rally outside of ACOG’s convention.
We were successful in not only gathering the tribe of parents activists and professionals, but the BirthKeeper leadership was surprised to be invited to meet with leaders of the ACOG trade association.
We chose our representatives carefully, and as a result of this meeting, the door was opened for further contact throughout this year. We have been invited in again to meet with the leadership. Click here to see our recent BirthKeeper Summit newsletter with the ACOG invitation.
Bringing the BirthKeeper Summit Momentum to DC in May 2016
The BirthKeeper movement was created to use the power of individuals and organizations to create a platform in which to improve the beginning of life for human beings.
Our current systems of care from pregnancy and birth to the postpartum period, as well as our social supports for parents and children, don’t provide optimal beginnings for human beings. This has a profound effect on both short and long term emotional and physical heath of humans.
Our presence outside of ACOG last year was felt, and we are committed to make our time in Washington, DC felt this spring as well. We invite you to take part in several events there geared towards helping the public understand how what happens at birth directly affects this primal continuum of human development.
We invite the BirthKeepers – mothers, fathers, professionals, educators and policy makers – to join us as we dialogue at the Summit and My Sista’s Keeper and as we gather at our rally in front of ACOG and march, for Family Rising!
To ensure that this Summit is inclusive, organizers welcome people for whom the standard registration is exclusive to pay what they can. Students or people in economic hardship are especially encouraged to use this option.
We live in an age like never before in history. We have immense power though our free social reach to connect to each other and to RISE together for Mother-Baby.
